Financial Conversations with Fitz #96 - A little bit about several things - 02/21/2012
A good weekend. Travel was good, no road challenges with weather until last night. Grain had quite a week with predictions and rumors out of Brazil and Argentina. Several views by both bears and bulls. USDA survey coming out on the 23rd. Will we have 94 million bushels or not. We are also watching Europe for our stock market swings. Did Greece really put a plan together? DOW will be up this morning because the market thinks they might have a plan.
This morning I ended up with several warnings and announcements so I just decided to combine them. The first thing I wanted to mention is another email scam that showed up with frequency last week. This one is ‘Claiming to be from the FDC’. It tells the people that receive the notes that “Your ACH and Wire transaction abilities have been temporarily withhold for your security, because your security version expired.” They then tell the recipients to “Please downloand and install the updated installations” by clicking on a hyper-link provided (Several different web sites listed) Finally, most of the emails then state, “As soon as you have installed it, your account transactions will be completely reinstated. This email is completely fraudulent. Do not click on the hyper-link!!!!!!!!!!!! The sender is just trying to capture your personal and confidential information. The FDIC does not issue unsolicited emails to consumers or business account holders. If you receive email about banking that you are not sure, give us a call at TSB. The other way to check is to go to www.fdic.gov/consumers.
The other item is land sales that continue to climb. A lot of writing about absentee landowners thinking of selling. Current farmers are the buyers. Be sure you check with your tax accountant or CPA before you sell your land. You might also want to run a set of figures on where you would go with the after tax money for an investment. The reason I mention ‘after-tax’ money is the large capital gain you probably will pay. Just have us run a what if for you before you proceed with a sale. CRP signups are open now. Give some thought to non productive land that might qualify. Consider the high cost of non productive land with the expensive inputs that won’t produce much. Again give us a call to run the ISU matrix on land production inputs and outputs. Have you signed up for your farm acres with FSA yet???? It looks like we will be having an early spring.
Don’t forget this is FFA week!!!!! Try to participate in our local events for this. Our young people are our best investment for the future. Also have an interesting meeting coming up in Winnebago county Public Health on March 1st for families dealing with Asthma at the County Health Office on S 4th. More infor coming up.
Call or stop in to see us if you have any questions in any of our three offices!
Remember that you should deal with people in community banks and organizations. When you work with them, you know that you will also see them sitting with them at ball games, church or community events.
