Financial Conversations with Fitz #88 - Update on SCHIPP/Medicare D - 12/07/2010
Wow, it is cold out this morning. We did miss most of the snow predicted for Friday around here. Seven inches for the territory to the north of us in visiting with some Minnesota friends. Grains ended crazy all last week. Looks like corn was soft overnight with beans strong. We had a great open house on Friday in our three locations of Thompson, Tike and Forest City. Fun to visit with all our friends from North Iowa.
As you know Medicare created the Part D for prescription drug plans. They have announced some minor new plans for 2011. Last year TSB in Forest City hosted the counselors to sort out all the different programs so they can make an intelligent decision when they go to their insurance people to buy a program if they like. According to Kris Gross, with SCHIPP, Iowa has 44 stand alone drug programs. Actually down from 48 last year. Senior Health Insurance Information Program is a non profit program supported by the state. There are so many different figures that are covered that one needs to read them in detail thru the internet or newspapers. If you would just google “Medicare Part D Drug Plans” you can read all the details. You can enroll online at www.medicare.gov if you like. You have until December 31, 2010 to sign up for 2011. If you like what you have and understand it or don’t have a need for a prescription program you can just stay with what you have. You will need to call and schedule your appointment. At these meetings they will help you compare plans and enroll. These are quite helpful appointments to ask your questions clarify your understanding of your program. You rec’d packets in the mail this month. Look it over and ask questions or bring it with you to your appointment. If you don’t have a carrier or want to change be sure to talk to Sue Heyer in our insurance agency after your appointment. If you want to visit with a counselor in your area we have that also. In Kossuth County you can call 515-295-4496 at the Kossuth Regional Health Center, In Forest City you can call the FC Library at 641-585-4542 to make an appointment or in Hancock County you can call the Hancock Memorial Hospital at 641-843-5000 to visit with a counselor.
Remember that you should deal with people in community banks and organizations that when they put something together for you that they will be sitting with them at ball games, church or community events. So, if in doubt give us a call.
