Financial Conversations with Fitz #77 - Sending the Kids off to school or apartment - 08/17/2010
What a great weekend for weather…he corn is looking good, but a little inconsistent in spots. Degree days are at about 2045…..over 60% …Not that far…when you think about it. The locusts are in full concert….. Boy, did you see the temperature for this week…..low 50’s and high 70’s. I hope everyone visited with their legislators this week or next. Lots of excitement going on the political scene. Keep your eyes open for a meeting. How are you doing with your landlord and next years rent. Will visit about that next week. Look for a lower DOW opening this morning. Grains, who knows….Nothing too exciting or different with the crop report last week.
Wow!!! Most schools start this week or next. Two weeks left in August. Another opportunity to review your insurance coverage for those young people that either did not go on to school or did go to school. If they live in a dorm, not much concern. If they are living in an apartment be sure to make a visit to Jeff and his crew this week in our insurance department to be clear on what is or what is not covered. New laws on age of people for health coverage. Check it out with your insurance company. Renters Insurance a must in my book for apartment dwellers. That is treated differently than living in the dorm. It is real low cost and avoid a major disaster for a family with a loss. There are also some areas of concern with auto insurance residence for car insurances. Particularily if you have a hybrid family…..Just be sure who is covered by whom Be sure your young people know who can or can’t drive the car. IF your young people are on their own, their car insurance can be affected by who lives with them. Just overall it is a good time to review your insurance. Don’t forget also that credit score can affect ability to obtain car insurance. Also don’t forget that if you have children in school and you are still unemployed without insurance visit with your principal of your child’s school about Hawk I health insurance. Final reminder on young people getting first credit card…..Want to suggest they get one from local bank to start out with. You know the rate and the people as well as they know you. Lots of changes coming up in the credit card world for minors. Will cover in detail on our program as they settle out. A quick note about apartments rent and utility.….Just be careful who is responsible for what. Give us a call to visit about that if you like….Had a client in this week that still has a utility collection on her credit report from college days….three years ago. If roommate moves out and leaves you stuck with rent and utility it will go against you.
Remember that you should deal with people in community banks and organizations that when they put something together for you that they will be sitting with them at ball games, church or community events. So, if in doubt give us a call.
