Financial Conversations with Fitz #24 - Can you believe it? June 30th and July 1st is here - 06/23/2009
It is summer!!!! Ground temp above 70 degree. Corn and beans are growing slowly. Now we just need lots of sun to get some color (green) to the crops. Traveled this last week. Crops are starting to look good. Minnesota received a bunch of rain that it needed.
Remember when I was talking back in February about signing up for the programs with FSA by June 30th…..Well it is just about here. Lynette and Barry asked that I mention that our producers get in to report their acres. You still need to do that. Whether you do ACRE or SURE you can wait until August 12th. There are a couple of programs around to explain both of those programs in detail. One in our area is June 23rd in Thompson at the City hall at 2:00. Kelvin Leibold from ISU Extension will explain it to us. Lynette will explain the key organizational issues such as payment and eligibility. Should run about hour and a half.
July 1st will bring a lot of new changes in some programs that could affect you. We have spent plenty of time on the Acreage changes that involves someone living in the country or thinking about moving to the country. I have a closing this week that will get recorded before July 1st. Fortunately it has a leech field since it was new in 2004. Health insurance for 30,000 previously uninsured Iowa Children from Iowa working families is available. Check with your local school or department of Social Services. Some new energy projects have been expanded for tax credits for farms, schools and hospitals or individuals………Extension of unemployment benefits for unemployed Iowa involved in training programs…..Increase in historic tax credits for our communities from $20 million to $50 million…..Insurance companies have to cover prosthetic devices…..STOP to home foreclosures on Iowa’s active duty service members….Stronger protection on home foreclosures that help Iowa home owners…..New consumer protections for car buyers, home buyers and those hiring a contractor for home improvements……Several packages to help with flood recovery in your affected areas. There will be an additional $11.5 million for flood mitigation and repair. Will have more on that later. Some funds for farmers to work on mitigation.
Had a great pool party on Friday night….The weather kept us concerned, but a lot of people had plenty to eat and lots of fun.
Where to go for help …..Local banker
Remember that you should deal with people in community banks and organizations that when they put something together for you that they will be sitting with them at ball games, church or community events. So, if in doubt give us a call.
