Financial Conversations with Fitz #7 - Resource Fair on January 22nd - 1/20/2009
Maybe the Iowa winter has settled down, do you suppose????Now maybe the markets will settle down……..Lots of Excitement today in Washington DC . Wish I was there on the edge….Not sure I would want to be in the middle of 2 million people.
Today I want to visit about the Community Cares Coalition group in North Iowa. The mission being “Coming Together with a passion to help our neighbors in time of need”. An interesting acronym of CCC. The older of us in the group will remember being part of or reading about several local CCC projects in our area. This Coalition is a group of about 30 plus agencies that work with people on human services with mental, financial, employment and housing issues. This group came together in November to see how to inform our citizens better of all the things available to us in North Iowa. One of the results is a Resource Fair being held in Forest City at the YMCA on this Thursday afternoon from 1 to 5:00 p.m.
This Resource Fair is for everyone to learn more about changing employment, housing and food options, financial management, health issues, (the County nurses will be there with blood tests for diabetes, flu shots for $5.00 and other health information), and youth services. Right now we have over 17 agencies that will have tables to visit to learn more about their services. Iowa Workforce Development will be the lead table with all kinds of suggestions and helps for assistance on unemployment and finding new jobs that might be available. They also have some interesting ideas on new career training, if you qualify. There will be refreshments available. This is all free. Just come in the west entrance of the YMCA.
TSB is a planning member of the coalition. So what does a bank do at a Resource fair for people? We will have our information table that we have in the lobby with helps on mortgage direction, budgeting, other credit helps. Our bank feels any time we can help the citizens of our communities; we are making North Iowa and Southern Minnesota a better place to live. Banks have a franchise responsibility to help our communities. You can call the Extension office at 641-584-2261 or call us at any of our three offices
Remember that you should deal with people in community banks and organizations. When you work with them, you know that you will also see them sitting with them at ball games, church or community events.
